A weekend of halfling themed fun awaits!

Think of it as a Renaissance Faire or party where you’ll play pretend and dress up as a short, charming, comfort loving, food obsessed halfling. You’ll step into a rustic village to make friends, play games, dance, and share stories by the fire. It’s all about celebrating the simple joys of life, halfling-style! At its heart, this event is about community, cozy experiences, and friendship. There are no hit points or “win conditions”, and the drama at the event is low-stakes and low-key. We’re just a bunch of silly halflings who appreciate (and annoy) each other.

Tickets start at $160 and go up to $298 for our deluxe cabin bunks. Admission covers a weekend of fully catered, halfling fun, including workshops, games, performances, way too many snacks, and a even a second breakfast or two!

The Premise

In an idyllic realm, hidden from the rest of the world, five halfling families gather for a seasonal celebration. At Shirefolk, families will rekindle their connections, and try to show-off and out-do each other! Whatever happens will be the talk of the Shire for months. Our fashion is likewise borrowed from 18th century British and Dutch working class outfits and the cottage-core movement.

Shirefolk owes everything  to Desany Phanoraj. She dreamed up a cozy, community driven space where everyone’s equal, the stakes are low, and the fun is through the roof!

Here, we are all equally small, and there’s something beautiful about that.

There's a lot to do...
But Showcases are special!

Show off your food, crafts, or creations in playful county fair-style contests! Judges hand out ribbons for standout entries, and a Planner helps organize the fun (including the weeks leading up to the event).

Each showcase has a Planner, a player who organizes the event and helps people present their entries. If you’re interested in being a planner, reach out to the game staff in advance! Many showcases have a few Judges, usually 1-2 per family, selected by the Planner during the game. Each judge chooses a favorite showcase entry and hands out a special ribbon as an award.

While there are ribbons awarded, it is important to note that this event is not a real competition. Each family judge may present a ribbon for different reasons. For example, a Higgleby may present a ribbon to the sneakiest of entries (eg. a cheesecake dessert that is cleverly disguised as sausages and mashed potato) while a Bluffwater judge may present a ribbon to the most complicated creation! Enter only what you feel your character would contribute to such an occasion.

We encourage you to select recipes with minimal prep requirements, as the campsite kitchen will be occupied with prep for larger meals. There are power outlets in each cabin, but we don’t have fridge space available for player use.

And so much more!

Provided Meals & Potluck

Enjoy three hearty meals from the Public House, plus three food showcases where you can share your creations and compete for ribbons. There will be a TON of food at this event!

If you're bringing food, you MUST provide a written ingredient card for the sake of those with dietary restrictions.

Games

Saturday afternoon there are field games and light competitions.

We provide a few field games, but you and other players will bring in-period lawn games and activities (Croquet and Bocce are great, Inflatable Sumo matches are not)

The Show & Tale

In the late afternoon, we’ll have the “Show & Tale”. It’s like a talent show, but you can present anything: skits, music, artistic creations, etc. Each entry only gets 90 seconds, but you can join forces to extend the timer. (for example, a 2-halfling duet gets 180 seconds) No single entry can exceed 5 minutes.

This event is a Showcase with its own Planner, Judges, and Ribbons to be won.

The Dance

In the evening, there will be a live music concert with dancing.

Try to find a date (romantic or not) with gossip, invitations, or grand or clumsy & awkward gestures. Psst. It’s tradition to gift your date flowers or a trinket! Have fun looking around for the perfect item.

Family Roleplay

Your character will be part of a Halfling family with its own unique quirks and traditions. Together, you’ll plan, play, and try to outshine the other families. Expect lighthearted rivalries, like accusing someone of cheating at checkers, and settling disputes in whimsical or wholesome ways (like a dance-off or whittling contest).

How we Play

Play for fun, for drama, and to lift each other up! This LARP is about pranks, friendly smack talk, and warm camaraderie. There’s no “winning” here, so share the spotlight and you can even try to lose on purpose if it seems like fun. Remember that everyone’s the protagonist of their own story, and even when playing against each other, we’re always playing together.

  • Key Themes: Play to lift, Co-creation & storytelling, Community & friendship, Friendly competition, Camaraderie, Sharing & fun
  • Unwelcome Themes: Racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, sexual violence.
  • Immersion: Keep the fantasy alive by hiding modern items—pour drinks into mugs, throw away wrappers, and stay in the moment.
  • Trinkets: Share small gifts like pins, flowers, or toys. These discussion items can be traded, collected, and earned from each other!

Emergent Plot

Some people like to develop their own “plots”, little stories that unfold during the game. The easiest way to do this is to play off each other and let “your plot” emerge from your and other player’s reactions. If something feels like a story, participate in a way that makes it more interesting & fun, and try to wrap it up by Saturday night.

Some plotmaking tools include...

  • React Big: Celebrate cool moments, buy into others’ roleplay, and make each other’s roleplay & character concepts matter.
  • Halfling Drama: Gossip, family squabbles, cider debates, and bribing or tattling on judges.
  • Mischief: Pranks, stunts, or playful annoyances (like a well-timed rubber snake).
  • Invent Problems for Others to Solve: Maybe your character needs something; perhaps a recipe or even advice. Pull others in and maybe offer a reward!
